Conceptual relationship between CAD and Accordant

Accordant is a web based application that adds Work Place Planning (WPP) and Space Planning (SP) intelligence to CAD floor plans. Accordant adds this intelligence by managing blocks that reside within the CAD plan by injecting and then populating these with relevant attributes.
AutoCAD blocks are classified as belonging to one of a library of object types pre-loaded in Accordant. Each object type will have a set of attributes that enable it’s effective management.

  • Note:- Accordant takes a rasterised graphical snapshot of CAD files to use on the web. It ignores all of the structure within the CAD file in doing so. It relies on its management mechanisms to carry out all further tasks on the server.

For space planning, Accordant uses a combination of polyline delineation and object based areas to solve area calculations. Polylines are classified by the layer they reside on. Objects based areas are dependant on classification properties.

Check In/Check Out

It is very important to grasp that in working with Accordant from within AutoCAD, the user is dealing with two distinct and separate versions of the CAD file being edited

  • Local version – The version being edited on the users machine
  • Server side version – The version held on the server for web based operations. These two versions of the same file are divorced from one another. Any changes made to the local copy during editing will not be available to the online project database until the file is Checked In again.

Initially the user will Check In (Upload) the required CAD files to the server hosting Accordant. These files form the master file set for the project.

From then on the user will Check Out (Download) each file that requires editing from the server and work off this local copy from their own computer.
As both local and server side versions of a CAD file have the same filename, one has to be aware that checking in overwrites the current server side version with the updated local copy of the file. Once edits have been made, Checking In removes the file lock from the server for the checked in drawing.

  • All overwritten versions are backed up and can be rolled back at any time on the server. There is also a danger that should a Check In attempt fail and the user later Checks Out the drawing to make further modifications, they will effectively overwrite the local copy of the file and so lose all of the edits made earlier on.
  • It might therefore be good practice to make a backup copy of the locally modified file before a Check In attempt that can provide a fail safe in this situation.
